• NG Network Highlights Bribery Act

We have many women involved in the organisation, including Claire Dickerson of Blusource Legal www.blusource.co.uk  who sits on our committee and is one of our longest serving committee members. Other organisations represented on the organising committee include Actons solicitors, LDC, RSM Tenon, Yorkshire Bank and Press4Attention PR.

Traditionally we run four quarterly business breakfasts per year that allow a sociable environment for networking before the working day. Part of the thinking for originally running business breakfasts was that these can be more family friendly, especially if members have family commitments (as opposed to the more traditional ‘after work drinking’ networking events often laid on in the business community).

NG Committee member Tom Gray of Actons law firm in the city spoke to members about the newly introduced Bribery Act.

Imagine if you had to pay a bribe to see your newborn baby, get your water supply connected or obtain your driving licence.

According to a recent article published on the BBC News South Asia service, this is the everyday reality of life in India.

According to Swati Ramanathan, “Bribery is routinely expected in interactions with government officials, to register your house, domestic water connection, even a death certificate.”
